TruckWeek goes to school

30 July 2014

NSW trucking business Formula Chemicals has listed the first NSW event for TruckWeek 2014, with a truck display and barbecue for students at a local Sydney school on Thursday 4 September.

Held every two years, TruckWeek is a nation-wide celebration of the trucking industry and the people who work in it. TruckWeek 2014 will run from 1-7 September.

As part of the celebrations, Formula Chemicals will provide a BBQ lunch and showbags for the 160 students at Melrose Park Public School, as well as present the school with a $500 donation.

The state member for Ryde, Victor Dominello, state member for Parramatta, Dr Geoff Lee, and the Mayor for Ryde, Roy Maggio, will attend the day, while students will be able to get up close with a Formula Chemicals pallet truck, Toll Volvo tautliner, Mack prime mover and a fire engine in the truck display.

Formula Chemicals Director Leigh Smart said TruckWeek was a great opportunity to improve the industry’s reputation by showing the community how a modern, professional trucking business operates.

“Our fleet of 7 trucks are all modern, regularly replaced, maintained to the highest standards and accredited through a number of schemes, including TruckSafe,” Mr Smart said.

“We care about our community, safety and the environment. When we send our drivers out to work in the morning, we expect them to come back home safely.

“Melrose Park Public School is a tiny little school near our business – I have five grandkids there. We sponsor the school fairly regularly because it’s a great way to give back to the community.

“At the end of the day, we’d like the kids to understand that everything they get on the table at home has travelled by truck. Groceries don’t just come from the supermarket – across Australia, responsible truck drivers work very hard to move 70 per cent of Australia’s domestic freight.”

The Chief Executive of the Australian Trucking Association, Stuart St Clair, said TruckWeek was a time to celebrate the safe, dedicated and professional operators and employees in the trucking industry.

“I congratulate Formula Chemicals and our other event holders, and urge every trucking business to hold an event in their local area and take part in TruckWeek 2014,” Mr St Clair said.

“This is our chance to show Australia how trucking delivers.”

Everyone in the industry is invited to hold an event during TruckWeek. For event ideas, resources and the full event listing, visit the TruckWeek website www.truckweek.com.au.
