TMC 2012 program announced

27 July 2012

The trucking industry’s 2012 Technical and Maintenance Conference will present a compelling mix of technical forums and hands-on product training workshops, the Chief Executive of the Australian Trucking Association, Stuart St Clair, said today.

The 2012 PACCAR and Dealer TMC will run from Monday 15 to Wednesday 17 October and will be held at the Automotive Centre for Excellence at the Kangan Institute in Melbourne. The conference is presented each year by the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) and the Australian Road Transport Suppliers’ Association (ARTSA).

Mr St Clair said the conference was the best opportunity ever for trucking businesses, truck maintenance businesses and industry suppliers to trade knowledge and invest in training for their maintenance teams.

“The conference will include ten technical forums aimed at workshop supervisors, managers and executives, which will cover the key issues affecting the technical side of our industry,” Mr St Clair said.

The technical forums will include sessions on:

•    truck electrical systems;
•    best practice work health and safety procedures;
•    examples and case studies on how to save on fuel and maintenance costs through better aerodynamics, tyre selection and maintenance; and
•    the results of the ARTSA/Queensland Government brake testing program.

“The conference will also include twelve hands-on product training workshops, delivered by supplier experts. It’s an unprecedented opportunity to skill up your maintenance team in one place over just two days,” Mr St Clair said.

“Participants will receive a certificate of attendance for each workshop they attend, signed by the manufacturer and TMC, to demonstrate what they have brought back from the conference.”

The product training program will include workshops on:

•    Stemco wheel end maintenance, inspection and acceptable end play setup
•    SAF INTRADISC INTEGRAL and SAF INTRADRUM suspensions and axles;
•    BPW Transpec airbag suspensions and BPW Transpec axle bearing adjustment;
•    Knorr-Bremse Australia brake diagnosis and repair; and
•    Holland FW351 and GF36 fifth wheels.

The 2012 TMC will also include the presentation of the 2012 Craig Roseneder Award for technical and maintenance excellence in the workshop at the Castrol Awards Dinner on Monday, 15 October.
