Cummins offers three scholarships to TMC 2013 for young service techs

09 August 2013

Thanks to the generosity of Cummins South Pacific, the Australian Trucking Association is once again looking for three young service technicians from Australian workshops to receive full scholarships to attend the 2013 PACCAR & Dealer TMC.

TMC 2013 will run from Monday 28 to Wednesday 30 October and will be held at the Automotive Centre of Excellence at the Kangan Institute in Melbourne.

Each scholarship includes one full delegate registration to the 2013 PACCAR & Dealer TMC, including attendance at the Castrol Awards Dinner at the Atlantic Peninsula and the ALLRig Funhouse at the Fox Classic Car Collection. The winners will also receive two nights standard hotel accommodation in Melbourne.

Any Australian business that employs truck service technicians can put forward a nomination. Nominees must be less than 25 years old.

To enter, operators should describe in 25 words or less why their young service technician deserves to have a scholarship to attend TMC 2013. Entries should be submitted to ataevents@truck.net.au, along with the nominator’s full contact details. Only one entry will be accepted per business.

Previous winner William Ash was hosted by Cummins South Pacific to attend TMC 2012 at the age of 21. He said the experience was a valuable opportunity for a young mechanic like himself to broaden their product knowledge and make contacts in the industry.

“The opportunity to speak with people who have lifetimes of industry experience is absolutely invaluable, and there are so many things you pick up during the sessions,” Mr Ash said.

“If you have the opportunity to go to TMC, you’d be mad not to take it.”

TMC 2013 features technical forums on key issues like truck electrical fault finding, parts purchasing and tyre selection and maintenance, as well as hands-on product training workshops delivered by supplier experts. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance for each workshop they attend, signed by the manufacturer and TMC.

The product training workshops will include:

  • advice from Cummins on aftermarket fuel saving devices and their impact on your engine;
  • servicing BPW drum brake trailer axles;
  • heavy duty transmission service and diagnostic training with Eaton Service Ranger 4; and
  • installing, inspecting and servicing SAF-HOLLAND Modul suspensions with 12t drum brake axles and the G36 fifth wheel range.

The winners will be published in the ATA’s Friday Facts newsletter. All entries must be received by 5pm Monday 2 September 2013. Entries will be judged by the experts at Cummins. The full terms and conditions are available at www.truck.net.au/public/events/details.
