Trucking businesses should review their costs and freight rates ahead of the introduction of the carbon tax and the 2.4 cents per litre increase in their fuel tax on 1 July 2012, the Chief Executive of the Australian Trucking Association, Stuart St Clair, said today.

Although trucking businesses will not pay carbon tax on the fuel they use on public roads until 1 July 2014, they will still face increased costs from 1 July 2012 as their suppliers increase their prices.

The Australian Trucking Association has honoured Australia’s top truck driver and other leading industry figures in the 2012 National Trucking Industry Awards.

The awards were presented at the ATA Foundation Sponsors Gala Dinner at the Rosehill Gardens Event Centre in Parramatta on Friday.

The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) has welcomed the Government’s budget announcement that it will spend an extra $140 million on truck rest areas and other productivity measures over the seven years from 2012-13 to 2018-19.

The Chairman of ATA, David Simon, said the announcement would help reduce the shortfall in the number of truck rest areas on the road system.
