The ATA will hold two vital business and safety workshops at Trucking Australia 2018 in April, ahead of changes to the Heavy Vehicle National Law. 

 

New laws come into effect in 2018 that change the HVNL and impose new duties on business directors and managers in the road transport chain of responsibility. 

 

The ATA and the Australian Logistics Council are developing a master code of practice to help all businesses in the chain manage their common risks under the law and improve safety. 

 

The ATA has brought together a team of experts with real industry knowledge, with attendees hearing from transport lawyer Nathan Cecil, TruckSafe Chair Ferdie Kroon and master code developer Peter Elliot, as well as lawyers Michelle Taylor and Katherine Morris.

 

“This is an excellent opportunity to stay updated with major changes to the master code of practice and what it could mean for your business,” ATA CEO Ben Maguire said.

 

Workshop one – How to use the new master safety code will explain how operators can use the upcoming master code to make businesses safer and comply with the law. 

 

Workshop two – Protect your board, your family and yourself is a highly interactive workshop, and a must-attend for every company director, executive and compliance manager. Delegates will review personal duties under not only HVNL, but also WHS law, Corporations Act and other legislation. The workshop also focuses on how to get new directors started, and helping existing directors move on to other roles. 

 

“Staying up to date with industry accreditation, standards and regulation is vital to the success of any business. We would urge all trucking operators in Australia to see this conference as an opportunity to do that,” Mr Maguire said.

 

Trucking Australia 2018 will be held in Canberra from 18-20 April. Hundreds of delegates will gather at the event, taking part in sessions, social events, networking opportunities and a fatigue hackathon.
