Safety Truck takes home the gold at Taree

30 May 2016

The Australian Trucking Association’s travelling road safety exhibition, the Safety Truck, has proudly taken home the ‘Best Display’ prize at the Taree Volunteer Recue Association’s Weekend On Wheels this weekend.

ATA Safety Truck presenter, Glen Schmidtke, said it was a real pat on the back to win best display at the show.

“The Taree Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA) runs the Weekend On Wheels to raise funds for their ongoing work in the community. In its forty year history the Taree VRA has come to the aid of many, including motorists who have been involved in serious accidents,” Mr Schmidtke said.

“This is the second year the ATA’s Safety Truck has supported the Weekend on Wheels, and we were proud to share our road safety messages with more than 700 Taree locals on the day.

“These includes the truckie’s top tips on sharing the road safety with trucks, such as avoiding blindspots, staying back from turning vehicles, and not cutting in front of trucks.

“As I do at many shows, I entered the Safety Truck into the competition as the entry fee goes to the VRA’s fundraising. It was a real pleasure to win ‘Best Display’ on the day!

“We’re not in it to win a prize – we’re there to share the road safety message. I’d really like to thank everyone who visited us over the weekend, and I look forward to returning to Taree in the future.”

The Truckies’ top tips are available as a free download from the ATA website.
