Pedal your way to safety at the Nowra Show

03 February 2014

By special request, the Australian Trucking Association’s Safety Truck will return to the Nowra Show on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 February 2014.

The travelling road safety exhibition last attended the show in 2012. Since then the truck has been completely refurbished with new road safety games, animated videos and the very popular kid’s pedal car track.

The ATA’s Corporate Relations Manager, Steve Power, said it was great to be invited back by the Nowra Show Society.

“The upgraded Safety Truck has heaps of fun things to play with, like the brand new pedal car track and the colouring tent. Kids can earn their ‘Safety Truck Licence’ by finishing our road safety games.

“Our road safety message is for adults too, with new displays about the trucking industry and the ATA’s top tips for driving safely around heavy vehicles.”

Show President James Thomson said the Nowra community needed to be particularly aware of heavy vehicles.

“Everything goes through Nowra by road transport and the Princes Highway runs right through the middle of town. However, many drivers, young and old, don’t really understand the general size of a truck or how long it takes to stop.

“Driving around myself, the number of people who try to duck alongside a truck as it’s turning a corner is scary. To have a bit of awareness before you get into a situation like that can only be a good thing.

“I think the Safety Truck is a spectacular exhibit – there aren’t many things out there that are so interactive.

“Country shows like this are all about the community, and that’s what the Safety Truck is about too – making sure our community knows how to stay safe and work with heavy vehicles.”

The Nowra Show will be held at the Nowra Showground from 9am to 10:30pm on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 February 2014. Entry tickets can be purchased at the gates on the day.
The Safety Truck travels around Australia visiting festivals, shows and other community events. For more information or to request a Safety Truck visit, go to www.safetytruck.com.au.
