Cummins TMC scholarship winners announced

13 September 2013

The Australian Trucking Association has today announced the winners of the 2013 Cummins South Pacific TMC scholarships.

Each scholarship recipient will receive one full delegate registration to the 2013 PACCAR & Dealer TMC, including attendance at the Castrol Awards Dinner at the Peninsula at Central Pier and the ALLRig Funhouse at the Fox Classic Car Collection, as well as accommodation.

The 2013 Cummins TMC scholarship recipients are:

•    Jake Gulliver, Company Mechnanic, Wymap Group
•    Lucas McCoombes, Workshop Foreman, Hardy’s Haulage
•    Giles Kent, Apprentice Mechanic, K & S Freighters

The scholarships were open to Australian service technicians under the age of 25. This is the second time Cummins has offered the scholarships, following the success of the program in 2012.

Cummins Automotive Sales and Customer Support Manager Col Baker said he looked forward to meeting the scholarship recipients at TMC2013.

“Cummins South Pacific is proud to be partnered with the ATA in this valuable initiative, and we think it’s a great way to encourage our younger people in the transport industry to participate in the main technical forum each year,” Mr Baker said.

“To have our young service technicians meeting and learning from the legends of our industry is an invaluable experience. This scholarship helps young people across Australia to broaden their product knowledge, develop their skills, meet suppliers and make connections in the industry.”

Two of the three 2012 scholarship recipients have already registered to return for TMC2013, including heavy vehicle automotive mechanic William Ash from Mann’s Transport in Goondiwindi.

“If you have the opportunity to go to TMC, you’d be mad not to take it,” he said.

TMC2013 will run from Monday 28 to Wednesday 30 October at the Automotive Centre of Excellence at the Kangan Institute in Docklands, Melbourne.

The event features technical forums on key issues like truck electrical fault finding, parts purchasing and tyre selection and maintenance, as well as hands-on product training workshops delivered by leading suppliers including Cummins, Eaton and BPW Transpec. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance for each workshop they attend, signed by the manufacturer and TMC.

It’s not too late to register for TMC2013. And until midnight on Wednesday 18 September, you can use the code ELECTION during online registration to save $90 off the full delegate rate.
