Friday Facts - truck crash fact sheet

218 people were killed in truck crashes in the year ended March 2011 compared to 230 in the year ended March 2010, truck crash figures from the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) show. There’s more detail in the fact sheet the ATA issued today, which is available from ATA member associations.

Australia’s national truck laws are now a step closer. The Queensland Transport Minister, Annastacia Palaszczuk, introduced the first of the two bills needed to establish the laws into the Queensland Parliament on Tuesday 15 November. Victoria, Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia now have a uniform approach to counting work and rest time for fatigue purposes after a campaign by the ATA and its members, the Friday Facts reports today.
