Industry congratulates Albanese on Labor leadership victory

 The trucking industry has today congratulated Anthony Albanese on his election as leader of the Labor Party, Chair of the Australian Trucking Association (ATA), Geoff Crouch, said today. 

The ATA represents the 50,000 businesses and 200,000 people in the Australian trucking industry. 

“As a former Infrastructure and Transport Minister, Anthony Albanese understands the vital role the road transport industry plays in connecting our community and economy,” Mr Crouch said. 

“The ATA and our member associations look forward to continuing our positive relationship with Mr Albanese and discussing key issues that are important to the trucking industry. 

Mr Crouch said the key issues include fuel security, the need for more and improved heavy vehicle rest areas, and advanced braking for new trucks in order to improve industry safety and productivity. 

Mr Crouch said Mr Albanese had always been ready to engage with the trucking industry at all levels and had spoken of the need to [March 2018, Australian Logistics Council Forum]: 

“…meet the growing freight task head-on, and build and maintain a modern, well-planned, efficient and safe freight and logistics network which supports rather than hinders Australia’s future economic development.”
