Preparing for the future is critical for success

31 March 2017

Maintaining and improving safety, viability and professionalism must be the focus for the trucking industry, the CEO of the Australian Trucking Association (ATA), Ben Maguire said today at the Livestock and Bulk Rural Carriers Association, (LBRCA) conference.

Mr Maguire spoke at the conference about a number of overarching issues currently facing the trucking industry.

“There are many challenges facing the trucking industry and we need to tackle them as a unified front,”  Mr Maguire, said.

“The ATA is the leading voice in the trucking industry and we use that voice to support our state and territory member associations in issues that affect our members.

“The ATA is working with the Australian Logistics Council to form an Industry Code of Practice that covers areas such as fatigue, chain of responsibility and risk assessment.

“There are also issues with the Euro VI regulation impact statement which would have an enormous impact if implemented on trucking operators and companies nationwide,” Mr. Maguire, said.

“The industry is changing and we need to change with it. Issues like animal welfare are becoming more and more important. That’s why ATA based accreditation programs like TruckSafe and TruckCare are so important to ensure that all operators are operating as safely as possible and adhering to due diligence.

“TruckCare is the best risk mitigation tool to manage your animal welfare obligations in industry.

“These are all issues that we will be discussing at open forums at our upcoming event Trucking Australia 2017, June 21 to 23. Preparing for the future and understanding how the industry is changing is critical for future success, and so I urge everyone to attend and have these valuable discussions,” he said.

The LBRCA conference was a celebration of 30 years of success in the livestock, bulk and rural transport industry, with talks from many prominent industry leaders.
