Australia’s leading annual supply chain safety event is set to expand in 2018, with the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) confirming it will join with the Australian Logistics Council (ALC) as co-host for the 2018 ALC & ATA Supply Chain Safety & Compliance Summit on 5-6 September at the Melbourne Park Function Centre. 

The Summit is held annually to raise awareness about Chain of Responsibility (CoR) and related safety issues, and to provide industry participants with practical advice on how to ensure high levels of safety and compliance within their own organisations. 

This year’s high-level discussions, keynote presentations, panel sessions and interactive workshop sessions are expected to attract more than 300 industry representatives from all levels of the supply chain. 

This will be the first time that ALC and the ATA have joined together to stage a major industry event and builds on their effective partnership over the last year jointly developing a Registered Industry Code of Practice (Master Code) for heavy vehicle safety. 

The Master Code was developed with support from the Australian Government and the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator. 

It is expected that a highlight of this year’s summit will be the launch of the Master Code by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Hon. Michael McCormack MP. 

“The summit comes at a critical time for industry participants, as the significant expansion of the CoR provisions within the Heavy Vehicle National Law fast approach,” ATA Chief of Staff Bill McKinley said today. 

“The new laws come into effect from 1 October, so it is important trucking operators and all supply chain participants with CoR obligations are informed, well-prepared and able to access the right advice,” he said. 

“The Master Code has been carefully developed in close consultation with industry to help businesses in the supply chain comply with their expanded CoR obligations, by effectively managing risks,” ALC Managing Director Michael Kilgariff said. 

“This year’s summit will focus on how the Master Code will help develop practical safety solutions for heavy vehicle operators and supply chain participants. Delegates will hear from a range of industry experts over the course of the summit, covering a range of key industry issues such as safety, training and compliance,” he said.
